Profile of Dr. Gary Fountain
Dr. Gary Fountain has been the Rector at Chatham Hall since 2003. Prior to coming to Chatham Hall, Dr. Fountain was an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Ithaca College, where he taught nineteenth and twentieth-century British and American Literature, and coordinated the English Teacher Education Program.
His seven years at Ithaca College were preceded by eighteen years in girls schools: twelve years teaching English and serving as department chair (nine years) at Miss Porter's School, where he also held a teaching chair, and six years at The Ethel Walker School, where he taught English and Religious Studies, chaired the Religious Studies Department, and directed the Chapel Program.
Dr. Fountain is widely published, including his Elizabeth Bishop: An Oral Biography (University of Massachusetts Press, 1994) and numerous articles on modern American literature and culture
