Rags to Pads update

Ladli Mela

Since February 2009, our Rags to Pads project (named Ladli, which means "Beloved") is up and runing and every month about 300 students receive a pack of pads. Our next goal was to reach the women of the communities surrounding our school. Therefore, on November 8th, PPES organized a mela at school. Parents, friends and villagers were invited. About 1000 people came and enjoyed the live music, dance performances by PPES students, stalls with food and drinks. During the event, women were informed about the problems an unappropriate use of rags could cause to their health. They also had the chance to purchase pads produced at the school.

More affordable pads

Most of the women do not use pads because they do not have the financial means to buy it. In villages such as Anupshahr where many families live under the poverty threshold, every rupee counts. Therefore, since November 2009, PPES is selling the pack of 10 pads for Rs.5 each. We believe this measure will help us to reach more women in the community.

Bigger Production Capacity

Our goal is to multiply our production capacity by a factor of 10 over two years. This way, we would be able to reach 5000 women per month. In November 2009, DuPont has kindly helped us making a step towards this goal by donating a second machine, along with enough raw materials for the coming year. This will enable us to increase the production capacity to 400 to 500 pads per day.
